Integration between SPMT and high-capacity cranes

The installation of the new bridge over the Canal Bianco in Trecenta (Rovigo) represents an advanced example of operational integration between self-propelled modular transporters (SPMT) and large-capacity crawler cranes, a strategic solution today for the construction of demanding infrastructures.

The prefabricated bridge, with a total weight of 385 ton, was moved and positioned using 32 axle lines SPMTs, which ensured optimal load distribution and control of ground pressures during horizontal translation up to the cantilever on the canal bed. In the most critical phase, characterized by the progressive shift of the center of gravity, a Tadano CC 38.650-1 crawler crane was used, allowing controlled management of load sharing between transport and lifting systems.

The perfect synergy between SPMT and crane made it possible to safely manage the load transitions, the repositioning of the supports and the final advancement of the structure, maintaining full static and geometric control of the deck at every stage. This intervention is part of an already consolidated operational path on the Canal Bianco, after the successful installation of the Calà del Moro bridge, carried out with SPMT and very high-capacity cranes in a tandem lift configuration. Two distinct projects, united by an engineering approach oriented towards safety, precision and reduction of environmental impact.

The integration between SPMT and high-capacity cranes, supported by its own vehicles and specialist skills in heavy lifting and heavy transport, confirms itself as an effective solution for the installation of prefabricated bridges and large civil structures, especially in contexts with complex logistical and environmental constraints.
