Integrated Operation for a Transformer in Rapallo
Integrated Heavy Transport and Lifting Operation for a 60-Tonne Transformer in Rapallo
Autovictor recently completed an integrated heavy transport, industrial handling and lifting operation in Rapallo for the final installation of a transformer weighing approximately 60 ton inside a power plant.
The project highlighted Autovictor's ability to provide the client with a complete service by internally coordinating every operational phase of the project: from the initial lifting operation in the storage area, to transport by SPMT, through to the final placement of the unit in its permanent position.
For the operation, Autovictor deployed 4-axle self-propelled modular transporters (SPMTs), a Liebherr LTM 1220 mobile crane, and several auxiliary vehicles from the company's fleet dedicated to logistical and operational support.
The operational sequence began in an external storage area, where the transformer was lifted by the Liebherr LTM 1220 mobile crane and subsequently loaded onto the Autovictor 4-axle SPMTs.
Once the load securing and safety procedures had been completed, the SPMTs transported the transformer over a distance of approximately 200 metres to the entrance of the power plant.
Meanwhile, the mobile crane followed the SPMT convoy and, prior to entering the facility, underwent the necessary reconfiguration procedures required to access the indoor working area, including the installation of counterweights, boom lowering, and subsequent entry into the operational area of the power plant.
Once inside the facility, the Liebherr LTM 1220 lifted the transformer directly from the SPMTs and performed the final lifting operation, accurately positioning the unit in its designated final location.
In addition to the operational activities, Autovictor also provided the technical and engineering support required by the client to carry out a preliminary assessment of the working conditions. In particular, calculations were performed regarding the maximum ground bearing pressures generated by the crane outriggers, together with ground bearing capacity verifications, both of which were essential to ensure safe operations within the power plant.
This project once again confirms Autovictor's ability to deliver integrated heavy transport and lifting solutions through a single operational partner, combining specialised equipment, engineering expertise, and technical coordination for the successful execution of challenging industrial operations.
