Replacement of a railway bridge in Domodossola

Two Autovictor mobile cranes - a Liebherr Mobile Crane LTM 1400-7.1 and a Terex-Demag AC 500-2 - were used for the installation of the "Mizzoccola bridge", along the narrow-gauge electric railway line between Domodossola and the state border with Switzerland.

The metal bridge, which crosses the Toce river, was the subject of two separate operations.

The first phase of the work saw Autovictor's operators and machines working to dismantle the old bridge. Specifically, we proceeded with the removal of the two lateral segments, weighing approximately 40 t each, using the two mobile cranes individually. Subsequently, Liebherr and Terex-Demag lifted, in a tandem operation, the central segment characterized by a weight of approximately 67 t.

The second operation concerned the positioning of the new metal bridge. Our cranes carried out the launching and positioning of the new central segment, a structure weighing approximately 155 t, and the two new lateral segments, weighing approximately 85 t each. The installation of the three new bridge sections was all performed with tandem lift operations!
